TORBANLEA & HOWARD AREA HAS ALL THE REQUIREMENTS TO FIT IN WITH THE PROPOSED SERVICE CORRIDOR IN QUEENSLAND AS OUTLINED BY OUR LOCAL FRASER COAST COUNCIL.

We have plenty of land here for a major airport, industrial estates, transport terminals, electric trains & station, highway access, skilled available workforce, water supply, electric power, national broadband connection availability, short distance to beaches and more than adequate community services & facilities

One proposal I have suggested also was to have a huge ‘container terminal’ here to take some of the pressure from the Brisbane wharves. This would be serviced by the existing but upgraded rail & highway network in shifting the containers from the Brisbane wharves as they arrive there to here where they can be stored and dispersed from here to various locations around the state of Queensland.

I have access to corporations that will assist in putting together such a development given that this proposal is now possible. We need however to commission a report investigating the initiative. With the local & state governments co-operating and funding such a report, one can confidently march forward towards a prosperous future for our region

A great start is a local Fraser Coast central trades & services project that requires some support to kick start the proposal. Refer link below.

Council advocates for a service corridor

16 September 2011

The Fraser Coast Regional Council has called for the State Government to recognise the Fraser Coast and Wide Bay Burnett as a service corridor under plans to promote regional Queensland.

The push was contained in the Council’s response on the draft Queensland Regionalisation Strategy and draft Queensland Infrastructure Plan.

“The Fraser Coast and Wide Bay Burnett should be recognised as a service corridor to the developing gas and mining sectors next door,” Fraser Coast Mayor Mick Kruger said.

The draft plans indicate that services account for at least 20% of the Queensland economy but fail to recognise the Fraser Coast and Wide Bay and Burnett in maps outlining Queensland’s economic zones. (See purple area to be added to map from planning document.)

“The map shows our region as a white void,” Cr Kruger said.

“Our submission on the draft documents includes support from Wide Bay Burnett Mayors, the Regional Development Authority, the Urban Development Institute of Australia – Wide Bay and all chambers of commerce – for our region to be included as a service corridor to the growing resource sectors to the west and north.

“The Fraser Coast is more than just a tourism destination. It is ideally positioned at the gateway to the gas and energy sectors so our skilled trades, manufacturing and service industries will have an important role in the development of the resource sector.

“Recognition of the Fraser Coast as a service centre will focus attention on our ability to provide equipment, logistics, fully serviced and affordable industrial land, land for homes as well as workers.

“It will also focus government attention on the need to fund infrastructure here so we are ready to meet the demand for new homes and industries to expand.

“The support of regional stakeholders to this proposal is strong and we urge the State to recognise the economic opportunities for the Wide Bay Burnett in these strategic plans that will guide future infrastructure investment and development of the state.”

The Council submissions on the Queensland Regionalisation Strategy and Queensland Infrastructure Plan have been lodged with the State Government as part of the community consultation process. Outcomes are expected later this year.

Hello

The storm season is nearly upon us and residents who have lived here all their lives, as I have, will be well aware that cyclones do hit our region. Lives have been lost in the past. We want to ensure that doesn’t happen in the future.

The key to your family’s survival during a cyclone, flood or bushfire is preparation.

The Council is helping you prepare by issuing every household with an Emergency Action Guide containing preparation tips, then holding public meetings to answer your questions.

Read your Emergency Action Guide then bring it along to one of the meetings listed on the Council’s website. When you get home after the meeting, put what you have learned into practice.

My husband John and I will be attending a meeting for our family’s welfare. It is so long since a cyclone came our way that we might well have forgotten some of the measures we should be taking and there are sure to be new, helpful ideas.

Gather your neighbours and family together and come along in a group. It could be a social occasion that could save your lives.

Kind regards,

Julie Arthur
Acting Fraser Coast Mayor

You should have received in your letterbox a Council Emergency Action Guide that includes tips on preparing for storms, flood, bushfire or cyclones.

Read your guide thoroughly to ensure you fully understand how to prepare for an emergency then, most importantly, prepare!

Bring your Emergency Action guide along to one of the remaining free public seminars on how to prepare. Left: Seminar organiser Chris Vakas shows Acting Mayor Julie Arthur what an emergency pack could contain.

The concrete grandstand was also cleaned, repaired and sealed to stop water penetration. Roof sheeting and rusted purlins were replaced, the new purlins painted and the lighting was upgraded. Non slip and high visibility paints were applied to the surfaces of all walkways to improve safety before the seats were installed. More …

Good Evening

My name is Cressida Toorenburg and I am the Regional Coordinator for The Pyjama Foundation.

The Pyjama Foundation recruits, screens, trains and supports Pyjama Angels – volunteer members of the community who work with foster children and support our true heroes – Australia’s foster families. Pyjama Angels deliver The Pyjama Foundation Love of Learning Program™, a literacy-based mentoring program which addresses statistics around children in care:

92% of children in care are below the average reading level at age seven

75% of these children do not complete schooling

50% of the homeless come from a care background

35% enter the juvenile justice system at some point (82% of Australian prisoners have below grade 4 level of functional literacy)

28% of care-leavers are parents within 12 months of leaving care

I am currently looking for members of the Fraser Coast community over 18 years of age to be trained as Pyjama Angels. Angels visit a child in foster care once a week for one hour to read and engage them in literacy activities. The range and professional qualifications of our Pyjama Angels is diverse and they are made up of business and academic professionals, students, retirees and generally people who have a love of reading.

In an attempt to notify as many people and get the message out about this great not for profit organisation I would appreciate it if you could forward this email onto your networks please.

I have attached a copy of our Frequently Asked Questions and an application form should you or someone you know be interested in volunteering one hour a week. You may also like to visit the website www.thepyjamafoundation.com where you can find further information including collection centres in the area for our annual pyjama drive.

This site is not about power plays or political BS.

This is about real needs and real issues with real results.

Send us your views on any business matters in the Burrum district and we will publish it for you here in the site.

If you have a pet project or event worthy of promotion, send that as well.

As things unfold there will be interesting developments in this site and associated sites.

Our new newsletter will shortly be available. Will keep you posted.

A ll association with the current structure of the Burrum Chamber of Commerce will be erased from this site as it does not adequately support the needs of the local business community but merely panders to the views of a ‘presidents club’ mindset and a misconception of their importance in the local business community.
