The Torbanlea annual picnic race meeting has just grown from strength to strength and attracted patrons from far & near. Some pics are included below to give you some idea. The women were looking fantastic and were there to have fun and impressed many by their good looks and long legs.WOW..!

Great results and response-and shows the local people & the business community do have a need for such an event and expressed their feelings at this function.

TORBANLEA PICNIC RACES EVENT IS ON 22ND OCTOBER 2011

COUNTDOWN TO THE YEARLY EVENT KNOW AS THE TORBANLEA PICNIC RACES BEGINS.

The event is on October 22nd starting 10am on that Saturday.

Corporate support is well on track with around 500 supporters to be there in that area alone.

Helicopter joy flights will be on between races & the Miners Arms hotel will launch the event at 2pm on the same day.

More to come here in the next few days. This years event promises to be the best ever yet, so be there to enjoy the festivities.

TORBANLEA ANNUAL SWAP MEET A WINNER

TORBANLEA RACE TRACK BECAME A HIVE OF ACTIVITY FOR SWAP MEET STALL HOLDERS

Last Saturday 17th September 2011 a large turnout of stall holders arrived to take part in the quite new swap meet.

It was very impressive due to the large numbers of diverse stallholders present.

The organizers did a great job attracting them to the event and I will certainly mark it in my diary to be a ‘must do’ for next year.

If it could be promoted to now attract more people to attend the event, Torbanlea races is on a winner for future events.

NEW interacitve self guided Heritage Walk Tour

Maryborough’s heritage walk tour, which takes in around 50 points of interest in the city area, is now available as an exciting new interactive tour which can be accessed by a smart phone, iPhone, iPad, tablet device or a PC.

Take a self-guided tour around Maryborough’s historic city centre and Portside precinct that features images, historical and architectural details and audio commentary for each particular site.

The interactive tour is one of the first of its kind in Australia to utilise cross platform web based technology, allowing users to access the tour via a web-address or with a smart phone, Tablet or iPhone. It is another initiative by Fraser Coast Regional Council to support local tourism.

The tour can also be viewed online at www.maryboroughwalk.info or look out for the QR scan code on the new signage outside the City Hall Visitor Information Centre.

With Easter approaching I would encourage all Fraser Coast residents to consider holidaying at home.

Use the Staycations Card attached to the Council’s quarterly newsletter that was recently delivered to all 46,000 households in the region to take advantage of great discounts and deals from regional businesses and attractions and explore your fantastic backyard.

By holidaying, shopping and dining locally, you are helping businesses affected by the drop in the number of tourists to the region. If they are supported, they will in turn support other businesses in the region.

The Fraser Coast will mark 150 years of Local Government with a re-enactment of the first local government election and meeting in Maryborough, and descendants of people involved are invited to take part.
The re-enactment and other celebrations will be held during the week 25 to 30 April.

New roof for main hall at showgrounds

Fraser Coast Contractor Andrew Lakey is replacing the roof on the main hall at Maryborough Showgrounds and Equestrian Park.
The $120,000 project should be completed by 5 April, depending on the weather.

Have your say on proposed new Local Laws

The proposed Local Laws for the Fraser Coast are not set in concrete, Fraser Coast Mayor Mick Kruger said.
“The Council wants residents to have a look at the proposed new local laws and let us
know what they think – especially if they think there should be changes.”
“Just because the proposed new local laws are on public display it does not mean that
they have been adopted.
“If residents think there should be a change then they should make a submission.
Submissions can be made in writing or on-line from the Council website.
The local laws and subordinate laws local laws set out how Council will deal with
everyday issues such as conducting meetings, animal management, reserves, facilities, roads and parking.
“We will replace 81 existing local laws and 81 subordinate local laws developed by our predecessor councils with six Local Laws,” Cr Kruger said.
“Council used model local laws developed by the state government in 2009 as the
starting point to develop the local laws that are on display.”
Copies of the local laws and subordinate local laws are available from Council’s libraries and Customer Service Centres in Tiaro, Maryborough and Hervey Bay or can be downloaded from the Council’s webpage www.frasercoast.qld.gov.au.
Written submissions on the local laws and subordinate local laws will be accepted until Friday, February 25 and should be addressed to the Local Laws Review 2011.
Public meetings to go through the local laws will be held across the region in January andFebruary.

FRASER COAST COUNCIL REQUESTS INPUT ON LOCAL FLOOD RESPONSE BY THEIR TEAM

Residents of the Fraser Coast to have their say on flood response

The Fraser Coast Regional Council wants to hear from residents about the recent Mary River flood.
“The flood tested our emergency response plan,” Mayor Mick Kruger said.
“While most of our response went smoothly and according to the plan, there are certainly areas where we think we can improve.”
One area for improvement is Council’s ability to get information on flood heights as the water flows down the river, Cr Kruger said.
Since the flood waters have receded Council has conducted two debriefing sessions to obtain feedback. One debriefing session was held with emergency services and government agencies and a separate session was held with Council staff.
“We also want to hear from residents,” Cr Kruger said.
“We’d like to know what you think were good points of the flood response as well as where you think the response could have been improved.”
Residents can email their views to flood@frasercoast.qld.gov.au; fill in an on-line response form under the Have Your Say section of the Council website www.frasercoast.qld.gov.au or contact a Customer Service Officer on 1300 79 49 29 to have their feedback recorded.
“People will be able to lodge their responses until close of business on Friday, February 18,” Cr Kruger said.
“All the responses will be considered during a review of Council’s Local Disaster Management Plan which is conducted after an incident.”

HOWARD BRIDGE FLOODS @ BURRUM RIVER PHOTOS 28TH DEC 2010

HOWARD BRIDGE CUT OFF BY FLOOD WATERS RARE FLOODING OF THE KEY ROAD ON HOWARD SCENIC ROUTE

Locals say last time this happened was over 15 years ago.

I have been here 10 years and never saw the water over the bridge.

This event will certainly have people talking about it for some time as this bridge is very important to the local community here at Howard & Torbanlea.

Tour buses use it regularly as well.

Perhaps when money allows it, the bridge should be converted to a weir and a road on top.
