MICK KRUGER MESSAGE FOR ANGEL FLIGHT FUND RAISER

Sunday, October 10th, 2010
Message from the Mayor
Hello

The Fraser Coast Regional Council, on behalf of our region, is supporting Angel Flight by entering the Outback Trailblazer fundraiser and we are inviting you to help raise at least $10,000 for this worthy cause.

The Council’s CEO Andrew Brien and two senior staff members will head off on the six-day 4WD rally through outback Queensland on October 17.

As part of their fund-raising effort they are selling raffle tickets across the region through Council’s Customer Service Centres and libraries and Visitor Information Centres. Bulk tickets and sponsorship packages are available from Kevin Corcoran on 4197 4500.

We are delighted with the support we have received so far from businesses and residents keen to support the project.

Angel Flight is a fantastic cause that helps people in regional areas, including the Fraser Coast, access medical services quickly. I hope you will be part of this regional effort to raise these much needed funds.

For more information on Outback Trailblazer go to www.outbacktrailblazer.com.au

READ TO THE KIDS FOR ONE HOUR A WEEK – VOLUNTEERS NOW REQUIRED

Friday, June 25th, 2010

Good Evening

My name is Cressida Toorenburg and I am the Regional Coordinator for The Pyjama Foundation.

The Pyjama Foundation recruits, screens, trains and supports Pyjama Angels – volunteer members of the community who work with foster children and support our true heroes – Australia’s foster families. Pyjama Angels deliver The Pyjama Foundation Love of Learning Program™, a literacy-based mentoring program which addresses statistics around children in care:

  • 92% of children in care are below the average reading level at age seven
  • 75% of these children do not complete schooling
  • 50% of the homeless come from a care background
  • 35% enter the juvenile justice system at some point (82% of Australian prisoners have below grade 4 level of functional literacy)
  • 28% of care-leavers are parents within 12 months of leaving care

I am currently looking for members of the Fraser Coast community over 18 years of age to be trained as Pyjama Angels. Angels visit a child in foster care once a week for one hour to read and engage them in literacy activities. The range and professional qualifications of our Pyjama Angels is diverse and they are made up of business and academic professionals, students, retirees and generally people who have a love of reading.

In an attempt to notify as many people and get the message out about this great not for profit organisation I would appreciate it if you could forward this email onto your networks please.

I have attached a copy of our Frequently Asked Questions and an application form should you or someone you know be interested in volunteering one hour a week. You may also like to visit the website  www.thepyjamafoundation.com where you can find further information including collection centres in the area for our annual pyjama drive.
