A new name for a new direction for businesses in the Burrum District to reflect an independant view of what the businesses of the area want, not just partaking in talkfests about the same stuff over and over again with very few results

This site is not about power plays or political BS.

This is about real needs and real issues with real results.

Send us your views on any business matters in the Burrum district and we will publish it for you here in the site.

If you have a pet project or event worthy of promotion,send that as well.

As things unfold there will be interesting developments in this site and associated sites.

129th MEETING OF THE BURRUM CHAMBER OF COMMERCE INCORPORATED HELD ON MONDAY, 5^th OCTOBER, 2009.

Meeting commenced at 7.35 PM.

Matters of interest discussed and raised in point format were:-

1…Qld chamber of Commerce affiliation fees paid and continue alliance

2…Fraser Coast Living Expo was highlighted as an important event.

3…Letter of support for an initiative by our local Kindy organization

4…The new Fraser Coast Chamber of Commerce meeting here, date changed

5…Transport issues for aged etc Transcom care raised for discussion

6…Maria Creek Bridge to now go ahead states Mal Chard – our vice president

7…Andrew Brian FCRCC letter response re Howard’s needs, says nothing

8…Security cameras for Howard not to go ahead says council,

9…New township entry signs for Howard etc being currently designed by FRCC

10..Torbanlea races venue could be used for other major events as well

11..More events for the area required as well as ‘coat tailing’ events in region.

12..Update on progress of new trades & services project development.

13.. Aged accommodation complex of 55 units for Howard on the cards

BURRUM CHAMBER OF COMMERCE REPORT ON SEPT 2009 MEETING

SEPTEMBER MEETING OF THE BURRUM CHAMBER

MINUTES REPLACED WITH THE FOLLOWING

The date was set for the last meeting of the Burrum Chamber of Commerce for Sept 2009 but was cancelled as there were health issues with our president Bill and he was out of action.

He is now well on the way to recovery and we are glad of that.

Our secretary Rhonda and vice president were also not available because of pre commitments on that date. All is now back on track for our annual AGM on Oct 5^th 2009.

WE TAKE THIS OPPORTUNITY TO HIGHLIGHT SOME POINTS ABOUT THE BURRUM CHAMBER OF COMMERCE

1…The Burrum Chamber of Commerce will be hosting the first meeting of the newly formed Fraser Coast Chamber of Commerce @ a date fixed in October to replace the Wide Bay Chamber of Commerce. This new entity represents all of the 4 existing local chambers of commerce, Tiaro-Hervey Bay-Maryborough-Burrum District and is only open to executives attending from each of the chambers. Each of the chambers will co-exist in their own right in addition to having a united voice for regional development.

A stronger business representation for the entire Fraser Coast Region is the outcome.

2…The Burrum Chamber was represented @ the latest meeting of the Fraser Coast GREET tourism and job creation programme by publicity officer Henry Sapiecha due to the absence of our president due to his ill health

3…New members are encouraged to join the chamber

@ $60 per annum.

The benefits are great, with free advertising and promotions for each of the members as well as networking with other chambers, councilors, newspapers, fellow members and community leaders and citizens. Come to a meeting as our invited guest @ no charge.

FUN RIDE – MEALS ON WHEELS FUND RAISER – HERVEY BAY QLD

Wheels 4 Meals is a fun ride to raise funds for the Hervey Bay Qld Meals for wheels

31st October 2009

With over 65,000 meals prepared and delivered in the Hervey Bay area each year, this group of dedicated staff and volunteers has out grown their current kitchen premises and requests your support in building their new kitchen centre.

The Wheels for Meals Fun Ride is open to all ages and runs from Point Vernon to Dayman Park over an easy 1hr course (12km) along the picturesque Charlton Esplanade Hervey Bay. Download course map

At the finish line there will be a BBQ lunch with stalls and Family style entertainment. Singles, Families and corporate groups are welcome and imagination in their wheeled, non motorised transport is encouraged.

Money raised from this event will aid Meals on Wheels Hervey Bay in funding a larger meals preparation site, to cope with an increasing demand for the support of the frail aged, people with disabilities, and their caregivers, in our community, to assist them to continue living in their own homes.

128th MEETING OF THE BURRUM CHAMBER OF COMMERCE INCORPORATED

HELD ON MONDAY, 3^rd AUGUST, 2009

Meeting commenced at 7.03pm.

Fraser Coast Councilor Gerard O’Connell in attendance

Economic Benefit Strategy update – first draft gone to Council for further analysis – summary sent to Leigh Bennett – time frame 19^th August – issues relevant to each area. Key members from Chambers and other groups for reference – concept is to use recourses already available.
Gerard thanked Chamber for support – Bill asked why an outside consultant was appointed – Gerard replied that someone outside of council would be a better alternative as well as being familiar with the area.
Regional Tourism Meeting – held in Bundaberg. Burrum Chamber reps attended.
Fraser Coast Chamber of Commerce – meeting has been held with executives of Hervey Bay, Maryborough, Tiaro and ourselves – will give all chambers a wider scope – next meeting to be held in Howard – will be chaired by Steven Dixon – not yet incorporated but this will be discussed at next meeting.
Room Rent – Community Centre need to charge rent on the room used for meetings – cost will be $10.00 per hour – moved Bill Gosewisch, seconded Henry Sapiecha that this be accepted.
Request for award nominations – we have 32 aged units in Howard and Torbanlea – Bill Gosewisch to follow up on this.
Membership Fees – Henry Sapiecha moved, seconded by Scott Kelly that we increase our membership fees from $40.00 to $60.00 – no objections. The requirement for membership is that any members must have or being nominated by businesses that have an ABN.
Logo – proposals for change of chamber logo to be submitted at next meeting. Samples of over 100 designs supplied by Henry Sapiecha for assessment by members.
Letter of Response to discussions held with Andrew Jackson and Andrew Brien of Fraser Coast Council with a number issues addressed with more to come:
Town entry, riverside development, planter boxes, walking track Maria Ck, sewerage, oval improvement, community hall extensions, bridge, road works, railway boom gates – brought up.
