RECENTLY COUNCIL HAS PUT TO A VOTE WITH OUR COUNCILLORS AN ISSUE ON INCREASING SUBSTANTIALLY THE CHARGES TO ITS CITIZENS FOR DEVELOPING A BLOCK OF LAND. WE ARE TALKING EXTRA THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS.

For various reasons that they have justified, the charges have been levied [on people wanting to provide housing lots for the community] by our elected council representatives.

There seems to be a mindset by councillors that those individuals and companies who are trying to keep the land prices down, are a cash cow for any shortfalls that the councils find in their financial system.

It is bad enough that simple council applications are a drawn out affair at best, now we are being slugged by council huge increases for providing facilities to its citizens.

Why is it that council is making it so hard for the service providers in the shire as well as making land prices beyond what is already an over priced market.?

Cost of housing lots are now to be a lot dearer and the buyers have to wear the extra charges. Many projects are now on hold because of these charges.

The councillors who voted on the charges were reported to be:-

1…VOTED TO INCREASE CHARGES

A…Sue Brooks

B…Linda Harris

C…Debbie Hawes

D…Barbara Hovard

E…Anne Nioa

F…Belinda Mc Neven

2…VOTED AGAINST THE CHARGES

A…Gerard O Connell

B…Dave Dalgliesh

C…Juliet Andrew

D…Les Muckan

………………………………………………………………………………………………

Vote with your ballot at the next election

One must ask why the 5 women voted to levy the charges and the one woman and the three male councillors voted not to slug us with these extra horrendous charges.

Also let your elected council know you are not happy

We the chamber of commerce at Burrum wish to express our gratitude and pleasure to those councillors who voted against the hefty extra charges.
