New cards and on-line

searching and borrowing

Fraser Coast library users

Library users can now search the collections of the five Fraser Coast libraries on the internet using the updated Web Browser-based search application (WebOPAC) and readers are being issued with new regional library cards.

Fraser Coast Regional Councillor Linda Harris said the regional WebOPAC gave readers the opportunity to search and reserve the collections in Hervey Bay, Burrum Heads, Howard, Maryborough and Tiaro libraries.

“Previously readers would have had to search three different catalogues to see if the book they were after was available but now it only takes one search. Readers were also having to reserve material in different catalogues and remember to renew their loans at the different branches or online in two places and it also meant inter-branch loans took longer to process,” she said.

Now library customers can search, reserve books and renew loans on line in a one-stop web interface, and books can be transferred from library to library the same day by courier.

The Fraser Coast libraries have also purchased card printers for all branches to issue new regional library cards which reflect the regional service. The new card allows readers to borrow at any branch with the one library card.

Councillor Harris said plans were also under way for self-service kiosks at the main branches of Hervey Bay and Maryborough at which readers could independently check out books they want to borrow.

More information is available at any of the Fraser Coast libraries.
